The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued five directives in view of the large public gatherings expected on Thursday surrounding the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and the reception being organised in his honour.
The instructions were issued in a notice signed late Wednesday night by Dr Abu Hossain Md Moinul Ahsan, director of the DGHS’s Hospital and Clinic Wing.
According to the notice, widespread public gatherings are anticipated in Dhaka and its surrounding areas. In response, the Dhaka district civil surgeon and the divisional director have been instructed to deploy adequate medical teams at key locations. Heads of hospitals have been directed not to leave their stations and to remain prepared to handle any emergency situation.
The DGHS has emphasised five priority measures. Emergency departments at all hospitals must remain operational round the clock. Hospital heads are required to remain present at their workplaces for the next three days and must seek prior approval from the director general before taking any leave.
The directives also state that patients injured in any political violence must be provided prompt medical treatment. Hospitals have been instructed to immediately coordinate with local administration and law enforcement agencies in such cases, and to report patient details without delay to both the director and the director general.
In addition, the Dhaka civil surgeon has been tasked with deploying necessary medical teams, while ensuring the provision of essential healthcare services at sites of large gatherings in coordination with local authorities.
